Mafia Island

Chole Mjini

The concept behind Chole Mjini Lodge was to build something simple yet at the same time elegant and comfortable. No one can see into the houses from the ground and the absence of walls lets the Kaskazi wide pass through the houses during the warmer months.  As a result we enjoy cool nights almost all year round without a/c or fans and all the houses face slightly East of North for this very reason. With only seven tree houses, carefully placed and designed, privacy is assured. Open to the elements, with the king-size bed the throne-like centre piece, each thatched platform is reached via sandy paths that lead through the natural vegetation.

All have views of the sea; some are close enough to be lulled to sleep by the sound of the tide trickling back through the  mangrove roots. Most tree houses have a second level to accommodate children.

Kinasi Lodge

This intimate and lovely resort, situated in an old cashew and coconut plantation, provides a luxury stay amidst stylish décor and magnificent natural surroundings of the protected marine park.  The room designs, furnishings and finishes are eclectic, combining elements of coastal Tanzania, African, Indian and Arab cultures into a historically accurate "Shirazi" style that is unique to Kinasi. All cottages are ensuite with hot solar-heated water and have ample hanging space, a desk and chair, verandah chairs and table, double chaise (for full relaxation), full-length mirror, ceiling fan for cool air and power outlets in

the bathroom for hair dryers and electric shavers. The cottages have walk-in mosquito nets that cover the beds completely, and have been designed for through-ventilation and coolness in all seasons. Facilities: Spa, pool. Cuisine is a mixture of European an East Africa cuisine basis on seafood, fresh local produce, grills and home made condiments; Swahili night is a feature each week. KINASI offers great diving for advanced and novice divers in safety under professional instruction. We take great snacks and picnic lunches aboard our dive boats and stay out for two-tank dives or, after diving, enjoy the rest of the day with a visit to other islands or historic and interesting sites.

Set apart in the sunniest stretch of Pole Pole and surrounded by gently swaying palm trees, our swimming pool is shaped by a series of circles and set in a beautiful locally-sourced coconut wood deck. Chumbe Island Coral Park Ltd. (CHICOP) is an award-winning private nature reserve that was developed from 1991 for the conservation and sustainable management of uninhabited Chumbe Island off Zanzibar, one of the last pristine coral islands in the region. Firstly, the bungalows themselves are so brilliantly designed that they provide both privacy and a sense of freedom of living in the open (see "Eco-bungalows" for more information). Many of our clients find

these bungalows exceptionally romantic (honeymooners love them), but any individual with a passion for natural beauty will find these bungalows captivating beyond measure. All bungalows overlook the sea and it takes just 30 seconds to stroll from the comforts of your bungalow hammock to feeling the warm tropical ocean lapping at your feet. dining takes place under the impressive roof of our visitor's centre, which overlooks the sea between Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania. Our chefs provide an abundant supply of mouth-watering dishes that are a mixture of Zanzibarian, Arabic, Indian and African tastes and satisfy both vegetarians and non-vegetarians.
